Felix Ungar   

Viola Coach / Conductor


American violist Dr. Felix Ungar has performed as soloist and chamber musician at concert halls around the world. He recently toured the US and Mexico as violist of the Eastman BroadBand Ensemble, and performed as guest artist at the Hong Kong Music Interflow Festival in Yuen Long Theatre. Dr. Ungar has studied and performed at music festivals in the US, Canada, and throughout Europe including Prussia Cove (UK), Festival Pablo Casals in Prades (France), Recontres Musicales at Menuhin Academie (Switzerland), Altensteig (Germany), Kneisel Hall, Music Academy of the West at Santa Barbara, Banff Centre, among many others. He has performed chamber music with members of the Vienna Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, and faculty at Eastman. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music, and received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

In conjunction with his undergraduate studies, Dr. Ungar received a double-minor in East Asian Studies (with a focus on Chinese history) and Mandarin Chinese from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Ungar has held teaching positions at the Eastman Community Music School, University of Rochester, and at summer festivals in the US and Indonesia. His principal teachers were Jeffrey Irvine, Lynne Ramsey, Carol Rodland, and Donald McInnes, and he studied in masterclass courses with Ruth Killius, Kim Kashkashian, Thomas Riebl, and Nobuko Imai. For the academic year 2011-2012, Dr. Ungar worked with composers on new music for viola at the Taipei National University of the Arts and throughout Taiwan as a Fulbright Scholar.
